As our staff and members can tell you, when you put on a Gold’s Gym t-shirt, it means something special. It’s not street cred . . . it’s strength cred. You become part of a tradition of commitment and excellence that spans more than 30 countries, 36 states, and has helped millions accomplish their dreams.
Today, more than ever, people are looking for strength. Whether it’s the strength to be a better parent, the strength to overcome diabetes or the strength to be a better athlete – strength comes in many forms. At Gold’s Gym, we recognize that everyone has their own strength – our job for over 45 years has been to help them find it.

About GOLD’S GYM Philippines
Who doesn’t know the Gold’s Gym name? Iconic, very Hollywood, definitely American. For a gym operator since 1986, the appeal of running the most famous gym brand in the world was extremely strong when we were first approached to be a franchisee in 1999. We (meaning my husband Mark and I) begged off because we just started our own gym business in August 1997. As a compromise we agreed to close our three gyms and run the local operations of Gold’s as soon as the right franchisee is found.
Victor Siasat, a fashion retail royalty with rights to famous fashion brands, became the first franchisee. He had a perfect location in Ayala Center Makati (Glorietta 3). The original space was only one thousand square meters so a lot of negotiating ensued to get another eight hundred square meters of space. For the next clubs, a new partnership was forged between Victor, us and the Claudio family of Toby’s. We started with Galleria, Alabang, and the Xpress model at the Hotel InterContinental Manila. From the start until 2005, we were under a US company which got the developmental rights for the brand for several countries including the Philippines.
In 2006, we became direct sub-franchisees of Gold’s Gym Franchising International. In 2008, we bought the assets of a gym in Greenhills and converted it to Gold’s. Meanwhile, the Abenson Group of Wilson Lim became a sub-franchisee with a gym in Waltermart North Edsa.
In July 2009, America Fitness Partners Incorporated (AFPI), became the master franchisee of Gold’s Gym for the Philippines. This acquisition started a growth spurt: Victoria Towers Timog in 2010; Acropolis, Katipunan, and Cebu (a sub-franchisee under Justin Uy) in 2011; Centris, Chinatown and New Manila in 2012; Clark and Marikina on 2013; Blue Bay Walk (Bay Area), Greenfield District (Sheridan), Bonifacio Global City in 2014; San Fernando and Twin Oaks in 2015. As I write this, seven new locations are being finalized to open until end 2016.
While providing fitness services is a big challenge to a discriminating and educated market, we keep the legacy of excellence alive by investing in what matters most to achieve great results for any body. We hire the right people (focusing on education, experience and certification) and we continue to hone their skills through a team of local and international educators. We also align ourselves with world famous equipment and program providers.
We have won six major golden Joes (our chain’s version of the Oscars) plus several runner-up citations for different categories (marketing, personal training, group exercise, community involvement, management and leadership). Though heart warming, our real award is the loyalty of our staff and our members (even the International Health, Racquet, and Sportsclub Association or IHRSA ranked us extremely high in membership retention). With you, we will be stronger as a fitness community.
